Battery Statistic on Android-powered Device Report (update 18 December 2012)

In this report, we show top 15 battery friendly devices and top 15 battery killer devices based on average battery lifetime, and distribution of battery lifetime  as well as top 15 battery killer applications. Data is reported by users using Battery Stats Plus over 474 Android-based models and 5585 battery statistic reports during last three weeks. A device may report more than once, but it should wait for at least one day for the next report. In this report, we aggregated only models which had at least 5 reports for top devices. The average battery lifetime is 20.4 hoursBefore purchasing a new Android devices (or second hand device), this report may be helpful to select a correct  device.

An average autonomy device lasts 20.4 hours. Interestingly, most energy autonomous devices last in 10-28 hours, some of them last 3 or 4 days.

A minimum of 5 reports per model is far from enough to provide any certainty about true battery life. Especially since you have allowed the same device to report several times. You have only got an average of roughly 12 reports per model, and I am guessing that for many of the models, the reports come from a single or very few users.

In order for this analysis to make sense, you need *lots* of users for every device type. Right now, the report is borderline pointless

We do allow multiple report per device, but they should wait for 24 hours before submitting a new report.

We're gathering more data and we got around 200 reports per day. For your suggestion about 12 reports per model, we hope to get it soon.

This page would be far more useful if you separated each chart into "Smartphones" and "Tablets".

How does this handle people who've installed larger than normal batteries for the device? Is the "battery timelife" based on the default specs of the device, or whatever the user has installed. That can skew the data pretty bad.

Also curious about how alternate ROMs are handled in the calculation.

The line of average battery time on the battery lifetime distribution report should be vertical, not horizontal.

Unless you have many samples and very low variance you should plot the variance in your graphs e.g. +/- standard error or confidence intervals. Otherwise it is impossible to tell from the graphs how devices really perform. e.g. could those Tab 10.1 results just be one guy who keeps his device in standby for most of the week? Is it possible that all of the samples for a device come from a single user?

Are the hours recorded actually hours where the device was being used? I ask because I am very sceptical that the Tab 10.1 gets over 60 hours usage - reviews report 5 to 8 hours. In that case, it is possible what you are really showing is the user behaviour of a few users rather than the actual battery response.

Hi Bao. I was not suggesting that you get 12 reports per model. I was saying that's what you have now: 5585 reports divided by 474 Android-based models equals 12 reports per model

And I was saying that you need much more than that, and that you need to ensure multiple different *users* (not just reports) for every model
